Another Halloween gone flying by!
Our girls embraced the super hero theme that seemed extra popular this year. Penelope was Wonder Baby, Elyse was Super Girl, and Ariel was her own brand of super hero - Raven, from Teen Titans. When you look at Ariel's morose face in the pictures - quite a contrast to her usual exuberant self - you will see how in character she looks.
What surprised us all this year was Penelope's insistence on walking - almost the entire trick or treat route! At 15 months, she is fast becoming fiercely independent. A wonder baby, indeed. She walked up to each door and stuck out her hands for candy, just like her big sisters. If we tried to 'skip' a house she would wail in protest. She also complained if we tried to walk away before she got her share of candy. Apparently, we can no longer slip anything past miss Penelope who had her fill of chocolate afterwards too (and doritos!?!). If I'm being honest, there was a full-fledged family candy picnic happening after we made our rounds.
Despite Ariel's ability to cover much more ground than what we did cover, we decided to stick together as a family, which served us all well. After only one block, and two full tote bags of candy, we had more than enough treats to last us for several months and into next year regardless of our pace. Ariel didn't need to go to more houses, but her sisters needed her. She was the big kid role model. "Trick or Treat" she would say, and Elyse the parrot was right on her heals, "Trick or Treat!". They all had a great time.
Happy Birthday to my sister-in-law, Medrie, and thanks for writing with me every day this past month in honour of Down syndrome. As always, reading your blogs has been a treat.
